Welcome to Palmetto Independent Educators. Founded June 1996 by Renee Madden, we were established out of the belief that education should be both affordable and non-intrusive. Denise Merchant was chosen as director in 1997.

We, at PIE, understand how important it is for your needs and questions to be addressed. This site is dedicated to assist you at reaching your goal, the highest quality of education. It is our goal to help families who are considering home schooling to find the support and information that they need. This site is organized  into several steps that will help you become familiar with home schooling, state laws, accountability associations, support groups  and much more.

Curricula

As the parent/teacher, the ultimate responsibility has been shifted from the public school to you. You will need to take the time to learn and understand all you can about curriculum and what is involved so that you can make the most effective decisions for your home school.

SC Law

Palmetto Independent Educators believes that each home school family needs to have a full understanding of the home school laws and their requirements. Learn about HSLDA, over the years this organization has provided legal information, counsel and defense for hundreds of home school families throughout the states.

Support Groups

Support groups provide a wealth of ideas, news, encouragement, activities, and much more. If you and another home school parent have started working together trying to improve upon the quality of your home education then, you have started a support group.

Records

PIE suggests that a daily lesson planner, diary or journal be kept on each child that includes a list or description of lessons/activities for each subject taught.

High School

Having educational goals set in place as early as possible will be an advantage for both the parent/teacher and child/student. Waiting until the last minute can become costly. In some cases there will be programs and/or benefits which may be lost.
